Day Route 66-Oatman, Az

Oatman began as a tent camp soon after two prospectors struck a $10 million gold find in 1915, though the area had been already settled for a number of years. Wild burros  roam the town and can be hand-fed carrots and "burro chow," both readily available in all the stores in town. The town has the an old west feel, dirt roads and stores line the streets.

Oatman was perfect for both these two little animal lover girls of mine...these cute guys walked right up to our car and stuck their head into our car in search of food.

Justin was freaked out about that it was pretty funny.

It was a great time to go because their were tons of babies and they are the cutest ones! They were so sweet and let all the kids pet them... and chase them around.

My favorite part was the babies and stickers they put on all the babies heads and talking with the locals about the town....old towns like this intrigue me.

This must have been an interesting stop when Route 66 was at its busiest. It was definitely a different and enjoyable town.

Route 66 Albuquerque NM, Day 3

Today we went up to the top of the city on the tram on the Sandia Peak. 

The tramway is 2.7 miles long and cables are supported by only two towers between the terminals.  Tower One is located at an elevation of 7,010 feet is 232 feet tall.  Tower One leans at an18 degree angle to evenly support the cables between the lower terminal and tower two.  As a result, the top of Tower One is offset more than 70 feet our from the center of the tower base.

Route 66, Armarillo, TX- Cadillac Ranch

We got in late that evening and had a along drive ahead of us so the only stop we made in Armarillo was the Cadillac Ranch. From what I understand it is a art installation and sculpture in Amarillo, Texas, U.S. It was created in 1974 by Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels, who were a part of the art group Ant Farm. It consists of what were (when originally installed during 1974) either older running used or junk Cadillac automobiles, representing a number of evolutions of the car line (most notably the birth and death of the defining feature of mid twentieth century Cadillac's; the tailfins) from 1949 to 1963, half-buried nose-first in the ground, at an angle corresponding to that of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.

 This was such a fun and messy stop because it poured so hard on us the walk out there was pretty tricky because the ground was a huge muddy puddle. Justin did not want to venture out there but I insisted. We have to make the most out of this trip rain or not!! People leave their old cans of paint in bags on the fence or on the ground by the cars so all we did is walk out there get to work.

Justin took the babies back to car and me and the olders finished up.

There was one casualty out in the field...my fav flip-flops....glad that Kase and I have the same size feet  :)

Route 66 - Shamrock TX , and here we go

 The tower

This is the building the movie Cars used for the service station in Radiator Springs. It was really a cute building, and everything was restored really well. We got rained on again but I had to take some pictures with the kids in front of this neat historical building.

 There wasn't much else in this town which is sad because the tower was such a great building but we did go to a drive threw and they were so incredibly nice... they loaded us up with food, and free drinks. Im guessing they hadn't seen a family of 6 on a major road trip, most of their customers were locals :) Man I love this state!
